Himpunan Mahasiswa Departemen Ekonomi Pembangunan Universitas Sumatera Utara (HMD EP USU) adalah organisasi mahasiswa yang beranggotakan mahasiswa aktif dari Departemen Ekonomi Pembangunan di Fakultas Ekonomi dan Bisnis USU. Organisasi ini bertujuan untuk memfasilitasi pengembangan akademik, keterampilan, dan minat mahasiswa dalam bidang ekonomi pembangunan. HMD EP USU secara rutin menyelenggarakan berbagai kegiatan seperti seminar, workshop, dan konferensi. Salah satu acara tahunan unggulan mereka adalah EVEREST (Event of Young Researcher and Economics Students), sebuah ajang internasional yang mendukung ASEAN Youth Economic Conference (AYEC). Acara ini mencakup berbagai kompetisi dan forum ilmiah. Pada tahun 2024 lalu, EVEREST 8 sukses diselenggarakan dan diikuti oleh lebih dari 50 tim dari berbagai perguruan tinggi di Asia Tenggara. Tahun ini, EVEREST 9 telah membuka pendaftaran abstrak untuk Paper Competition dan berhasil menarik partisipasi lebih dari 90 tim dari dalam maupun luar negeri—menegaskan posisi EVEREST sebagai lomba internasional bergengsi. Selain itu, saat ini EVEREST 9 juga sedang membuka Infographic Poster Competition dengan total hadiah jutaan rupiah serta e-certificate untuk seluruh peserta, menjadikannya peluang besar bagi mahasiswa yang ingin menyalurkan ide dan kreativitasnya dalam bentuk visual.
